EMDR Connect

EMDR Connect is an online platform for conducting therapeutic sessions using the EMDR psychotherapy technique (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). It utilizes secure video conferencing and advanced digital tools to replicate in-person therapy sessions, thereby making effective trauma care more accessible and convenient from the comfort of your home.

Background

In a standard EMDR session, clients discuss and process traumatic memories using bilateral stimulation, often through eye movements. This therapeutic approach aims to alleviate emotional distress and promote healing in a secure and supportive setting, ultimately enabling clients to address and overcome their trauma.

Goal

The planning and design of the EMDR Connect app focus on several key goals:

  1. Client Management: This involves incorporating functions for adding clients, maintaining detailed session records, and enabling record editing when necessary.

  2. Session Documentation: The app ensures accurate documentation of all sessions, adhering to the EMDR protocol format.

  3. User-Friendly Video Sessions: The app is designed to facilitate easy and efficient setup and utilization of EMDR tools within video sessions, ultimately enhancing the therapy experience.

  4. Seamless User Experience: A primary objective is to create an intuitive interface that minimizes technical issues, guaranteeing smooth and uninterrupted treatment sessions.

Sessions Manager

The session manager helps therapists organize and keep track of their therapy sessions. It allows them to create profiles for each patient and add new sessions that occur in the clinic.

Additionally, the session manager keeps a record of all sessions, both in-person and online, and automatically saves them in the system for documentation.

This way, therapists can easily document their sessions either during or after the session has ended.

The therapist can share the documentation of each session with the patient.

Edit Session

Every session is recorded using the EMDR protocol format, which requires the therapist to enter specific details about the treatment process in a structured form.

In addition , therapists can also choose to write their notes in a freeform style and share them with the patient if desired.

Add New Client

To add a new customer, you just need to enter their full name and email address.

Then, to invite them to a session, you can copy a unique URL and send it to them via email or message. This link will be used by the patient for all future treatments.

Join Session

Before starting a session, both the patient and the therapist can check and adjust the audio settings as needed.

Joining the session is similar to a regular appointment at a clinic.

The patient “knocks” by requesting to join the session, and the therapist approve their entry before they can participate.

EMDR Session

The EMDR session screen serves as the primary interface for therapists and patients during treatment. Here, therapists customize the movement (side-to-side, diagonal, infinite curve, etc.), shape, size, color, and audio of the lighted object based on patient preferences, along with its speed and duration.

Once the settings are configured, therapy proceeds following the EMDR protocol stages. The therapist guides the patient through emotional and physical processing, synchronized with the illuminated object’s movement.

The protocol panel is designed for ease of access, allowing therapists to record treatment details in a predefined format, either during or after the session. Based on user research, therapists typically note down information in a physical notebook before transferring it to the system.

Additionally, the therapist has the option to add notes in a free-text format in the notepad panel.

The user interface of the system is designed for simplicity and intuitive navigation, enabling easy access to various features.
